Vietnam and Laos Collaborate to Honor War Martyrs
Joint Efforts Lead to Recovery of Soldiers' Remains, Strengthening Historical Bonds
In a significant expression of bilateral solidarity, Vietnam's search teams have successfully recovered the remains of 184 martyrs from Laos during the 2023-2024 dry season, as discussed in a recent meeting between special task forces of the Vietnamese and Lao governments held in Ho Chi Minh City on June 24.
This meeting, the 29th of its kind, reviewed ongoing efforts to locate, recover, and repatriate the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who sacrificed their lives in Laos during wartime. Notably, nine of these martyrs have been identified by name and hometown, marking a poignant moment of closure for their families.
Deputy Minister of National Defence of Vietnam, Senior Lieutenant General Vo Minh Luong, emphasized the deep-rooted friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Laos, highlighting it as a cornerstone for peace and development in the region. He remarked on the shared history and mutual support that have long united the two nations.
His counterpart, Senior Lieutenant General Thongloi Silivong of Laos, reciprocated the sentiment, acknowledging Vietnam's pivotal role in Laos’s struggles and current national development.

For the upcoming 2024-2025 dry season, the two countries have vowed to continue their cooperation until all leads have been exhausted.
