Lao President Invites Mongolian Investors to Explore Opportunities in Laos

Focus on Agriculture and Food Processing During State Visit
Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith has invited Mongolian investors to explore business opportunities in Laos, particularly in agriculture and food processing, during his two-day state visit to Mongolia from June 11-12. The visit, marking the first by a Lao President in 17 years, was in response to an invitation from President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh of Mongolia.

During their meeting, the leaders agreed to deepen relations and cooperation, especially in economic and trade areas such as agriculture, services, transport, and tourism. They also discussed future collaboration in politics, defense, education, and public health, highlighting mutual trust and support with regular contacts and visits between their leaders.

President Khurelsukh warmly welcomed his Lao counterpart, viewing the visit as a significant step to strengthen bilateral ties. President Thongloun expressed gratitude for the reception and invited the people of Mongolia to visit Laos during Visit Laos Year 2024. He thanked Mongolia for its past assistance and support.

The meeting concluded with the signing of three agreements focused on civil servant management, public health, and standards to facilitate meat exports from Mongolia to Laos.

Laos and Mongolia established diplomatic relations in 1962 and have since fostered friendly relations and cooperation. In November 2023, President Khurelsukh’s state visit to Laos resulted in the signing of seven cooperation agreements focused on economic affairs, trade, investment, and tourism. Additionally, both countries have continued to enhance their relationship through visits by top officials, including a visit by National Assembly President Xaysomphone Phomvihane to Mongolia in 2023 and Lao Deputy Prime Minister Saleumxay Kommasith's visit in 2022.
