7th Ordinary Session of the National Assembly's 9th Legislature Opens in Vientiane

National Leaders Gather to Discuss Key Issues and Legislative Proposals
The 7th Ordinary Session of the National Assembly's (NA) 9th Legislature was officially opened on June 10, with discussions focused on various issues of national importance. The session was attended by NA President Xaysomphone Phomvihane, President Thongloun Sisoulith, Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, and representatives from across the country.

During the session, Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone presented a report on the implementation of the national socio-economic development plan, state budget plan, and monetary plan, along with updates on addressing economic and financial difficulties and drug issues in the first six months of 2024. Ministers of Planning and Investment, Finance, and the Governor of the Bank of Laos also briefed the assembly on these topics and outlined targets for the remainder of the year.

Prime Minister Siphandone further elaborated on adjustments to the socio-economic development plan, state budget plan, and monetary plan. The State Audit Organization reported on rural development and poverty alleviation efforts, providing directions for the second half of the year.

The assembly will also discuss and approve eleven newly drafted laws and draft amendments to existing laws. These include new draft laws on medicinal resources and cooperatives, and amendments to laws on investment, the National Assembly, value-added tax, anti-money laundering, environment protection, anti-corruption, tourism, fire prevention, HIV/AIDS prevention, provincial people’s councils, and the election of members of the National Assembly and provincial people’s councils.
