In his message celebrating International Children’s Day, the Prime Minister extended warm greetings and best wishes to children of all ethnic groups in Laos and overseas, wishing them good physical and mental health and a joyful celebration.

The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of investing in children’s education, health, and protection from violence and other crimes. He noted that such investment ensures all children enjoy a bright future and a quality life.

According to the Lao Social Indicator Survey, the mortality rate among children under 5 has decreased from 79 per 1,000 live births in 2012 to 28 in 2023. Additionally, the ratio of births attended by health workers has increased from 41.5% in 2012 to 79.8% in 2023.

The Prime Minister acknowledged that continued investment in children is crucial to achieving sustainable development goals and ensuring their healthy growth. He highlighted major achievements, including the amendment of the law on child rights and interests, making Laos the first ASEAN country to criminalize corporal punishment.

Laos has also finalized its 7th periodic country report on implementing the Convention of the Rights of the Child (CRC) and its two Optional Protocols on the Sale of Children, Child Prostitution and Child Pornography (OPSC), and child involvement in armed conflicts.

The Prime Minister called on Party and government organizations, the National Committee for the Advancement of Women, Mothers and Children, central and provincial authorities, the Lao Front for National Development, mass organizations, the business community, development partners, international organizations, and the entire populace to address child-related social issues. He emphasized ensuring Lao children have rights, protection, development, and participation so they can grow into quality adults and become vital human resources for the country.
