Laos Sees Significant Investments in Q1 2024

Domestic and Foreign Investments Total 11.02 Billion US Dollars
The Ministry of Planning and Investment reported that the domestic and foreign private sectors invested 11.02 billion US Dollars in 6,007 projects during the first three months of 2024. Public investment was estimated at 666 million US Dollars, equivalent to 14.31 trillion kip or 44.15 percent of the plan.

Minister of Planning and Investment Phet Phomphiphack shared these figures at the 7th Ordinary Session of the National Assembly's 9th Legislature on June 10. The total investment for the first three months represented 30.8 percent of the annual target for 2024.

Investment in the first six months is expected to reach 2.45 trillion kip, which is 49 percent of the plan, with ODA-funded projects accounting for 2.24 trillion kip (104.46 million US Dollars), 15 percent of the plan.

Thongsi Soutsuliphom, National Assembly member for Phongsaly Province, urged the government to assess all investment projects, especially in the mining sector, to ensure they benefit local communities and the nation.
