Vietnam and Laos Strengthen Comprehensive Cooperation: PM Pham Minh Chinh Meets Lao State Inspection Authority President

Focus on economic collaboration, anti-corruption, and professional capacity building
Vietnam continues to prioritize maintaining, consolidating, and fostering its great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation with Laos, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized during his meeting with President of the Lao State Inspection Authority, Khamphan Phommathat, in Hanoi on June 3.

"Vietnam stands ready to work with and assist Laos in building an independent and self-reliant economy," Chinh stated.

Phommathat informed the host PM about the positive outcomes of recent talks between his delegation and the Government Inspectorate of Vietnam. He proposed that Vietnam offer further support to Laos, particularly in macro-economic management, perfecting institutions and legal regulations, and improving professional capacities and skills, as well as enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of inspection, complaint resolution, and anti-corruption measures.

Both leaders expressed satisfaction with the growing Vietnam-Laos cooperation, with delegation exchanges maintained and bilateral trade reaching approximately USD 620.6 million in the first four months of the year, a 10% increase year-on-year.

PM Chinh recommended that inspection bodies under the countries’ Parties and states coordinate in building plans to effectively implement high-level agreements and collaboration mechanisms. He emphasized the need to advance cross-border economic cooperation and projects that enhance transport and trade connectivity, such as the Hanoi-Vientiane expressway and the Vientiane-Vung Ang railway.

He also called for continued high-level delegation exchanges and cooperation, particularly in inspection work, anti-corruption efforts, and complaint resolution, and encouraged the maintenance of training programs to improve the professional capacity of their personnel.

The PM affirmed that Vietnam is willing to share expertise with Laos in macro-economic management, particularly in monetary and fiscal policies, and support Laos in successfully undertaking its international responsibilities this year, including the rotating ASEAN chairmanship.
