President Thongloun Pushes Saravan Province Toward Economic Resilience and Social Progress

Lao leader urges stronger agricultural practices, better education, and export potential in Saravan Province.
Saravan Province’s leaders have been tasked with addressing critical economic and social challenges, as President Thongloun Sisoulith highlighted during a meeting on January 15. Emphasizing the need for an independent and self-reliant economy, the Party Secretary General and State President urged local authorities to prioritize sustainable agricultural development and educational improvements to support long-term growth.

President Thongloun called for initiatives that enhance farming practices, equipping farmers with better skills and techniques to increase productivity. He also underlined the importance of political and ideological education to foster confidence in the Party’s leadership across all ethnic groups in the province.

Saravan, which has seen consistent economic growth with GDP reaching 8.48 trillion kip—a 6.1 percent annual increase—continues to focus on developing local industries for regional trade. A key initiative includes refining the quality and packaging of Napong grilled chicken, aiming to elevate it as a competitive export product to neighboring provinces and countries.

The province is also tackling social challenges, particularly school dropout rates among primary and secondary students. Efforts include improving teaching quality and expanding healthcare infrastructure, with a focus on empowering health workers to serve rural communities more effectively.

President Thongloun’s call to action aligns with Saravan’s vision for a resilient economy and improved livelihoods, showcasing how local leadership is blending economic innovation with social development to drive progress.
