Laos-China Railway Enhances Services for Chinese New Year Rush
Special measures and cultural events strengthen cross-border ties
The Laos-China Railway has introduced special measures to handle the surge in passenger traffic during the Chinese New Year. Starting on 13 January, the Bohan Railway Border expanded its counter services and opened a dedicated lane for elderly travelers, pregnant women, and children to ease congestion. Additional initiatives, including “classified crossings” and “peak service windows,” aim to improve efficiency for all passengers.
In Vientiane, Chinese New Year celebrations officially began on 15 January with an opening ceremony under the theme “Drinking from the Same River, Living in Harmony as One Family.” This event celebrated the cultural bond between Laos and China, with performances highlighting the recently UNESCO-recognized Lao Lam Vong Dance and Chinese New Year traditions.
The celebrations extended to the railway, as the D87 train from Kunming to Vientiane kicked off a special Spring Festival cultural event. Passengers were treated to live performances, traditional songs, dances, and festive refreshments, such as Pu’er tea and Yunnan coffee, transforming the journey into a vibrant cultural experience.
