The popular video-sharing app TikTok, owned by China's ByteDance, has ceased operations in the U.S. following a Supreme Court decision upholding a law requiring the app to cut ties with its China-based parent company. Despite President-elect Donald Trump’s promise of a potential 90-day reprieve after his inauguration, the app and its affiliates, Capcut and Lemon8, were removed from U.S. app stores, leaving millions of users without access.

ByteDance faces increasing scrutiny over national security concerns, with pressure to resolve the issue through divestiture or closure. In response, users have migrated to alternative platforms, including RedNote, while rivals Meta and Snap anticipate an influx of users.
