Construction of a new drug treatment and rehabilitation centre in Phonhong district, Vientiane province, has reached 40 percent completion, according to the Ministry of Public Security. Covering 23.3 hectares in Huaython village, the centre will house up to 500 individuals battling substance addiction.

The facility will feature an administrative building, medical and treatment areas, a vocational training block, and spaces for recreation and family visits. Scheduled for completion in late 2025, the centre aims to support addiction recovery through treatment and job training, easing reintegration into society.

This project, part of Laos and Vietnam's joint anti-drug efforts, also commemorates the 47th anniversary of the Laos-Vietnam Treaty of Amity and Cooperation. It strengthens Laos' commitment to combating drug abuse and promoting social order amid rising drug-related crimes.
