Laos Initiates Green Bus Trials Across Four Provinces to Enhance Public Transport
Laos has started green bus trials in several provinces to improve public transport and reduce traffic. In Attapeu, Champasack, Xaysomboun, and Bolikhamxay Provinces, new green bus services are operational following a partnership with South Korea’s Booyoung Lao to provide six hundred buses. These initiatives mark important progress toward sustainable and efficient transportation for local communities.
Several provinces in Laos have started trials of new ‘green bus’ services to upgrade local infrastructure and mitigate traffic congestion.
This follows a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed in June 2023 between the Lao government and South Korea’s Booyoung Lao Company Limited to supply 600 buses for public transportation.
In Attapeu Province, 10 green buses now operate from Samukkhixay district to various locations, including the International Border Crossing.
Champasack Province launched green bus services on 17 June, covering 16 routes, including Pakse district to nearby areas.
In the central Lao’s Xaysomboun Province, 20 buses began operating on 14 May, serving urban areas free of charge.
Bolikhamxay Province allocated 20 new buses on key routes and for educational purposes, such as student transportation and trial services for educational activities.
These initiatives are significant steps toward improving public transport infrastructure, providing more convenient and sustainable options for locals and visitors.
