UNICEF Representative Honored for Contributions to Lao Development
Dr. Pia Rebello Britto Receives Friendship Medal for Her Efforts
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Phoxay Khaykhamphithoune, on behalf of the Lao government, awarded a friendship medal to outgoing UNICEF Representative to Laos, Pia Rebello Britto, recognizing her significant contributions to the socio-economic development of the Lao PDR.
During a ceremony held in Vientiane on July 1, the deputy foreign minister commended Dr. Britto for her dedication to improving the lives of women, children, and young people in Laos. Her efforts included leading projects to enhance education, health, nutrition, and gender equality. Additionally, she played a crucial role in mobilizing support for post-Covid-19 recovery efforts in the country.
Dr. Britto expressed her gratitude to the Lao government, its people, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for their support and cooperation during her tenure.
Over the years, UNICEF has provided over 160 million US dollars to Laos to support various cooperation projects. This includes 68 million US dollars for the 2017-2021 period and 100 million US dollars for the 2022-2026 period.
