Laos recorded a significant boost in tourism in 2024, welcoming over 4.1 million visitors—an increase of nearly one million compared to 2023. According to the Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism, the top contributors were Thailand, Vietnam, and China, with each country sending over one million tourists.

The rise in visitors is attributed to Laos’ growing presence on international travel platforms and the success of the Visit Laos Year 2024 campaign, which introduced special visa exemptions for over 30 countries. Further elevating its profile, Laos was ranked fourth in Lonely Planet’s Top 30 Best Places to Visit in 2025, joining destinations such as Cameroon, Lithuania, and Fiji.
