Thailand's cabinet has sanctioned the second phase of the high-speed rail initiative that will connect the nation to China through Laos, with construction slated to commence in 2025 and conclude by 2030.

The 357-kilometer extension will connect Nakhon Ratchasima to Nong Khai, introducing five new stations and a logistics center to support freight transport between Thailand’s rail system and the China-Laos Railway. The facility in Nong Khai will act as a crucial cargo transfer hub, improving trade among the three nations.

With cabinet approval obtained, the project will proceed in line with the legal and regulatory frameworks. This advancement signifies a significant milestone in Thailand’s ambition to bolster regional connectivity and enhance economic relationships with China and Laos.
