Turkish Embassy in Vientiane Celebrates Democracy and National Unity Day
Event Highlights Turkey's Resilience and Educational Cooperation with Laos
Today, the Turkish Embassy in Vientiane celebrated the Democracy and National Unity Day of Turkey, commemorating the courage and resilience of the Turkish people, especially during the attempted coup on July 15, 2016. The event was attended by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, journalists, and relevant officials. Turkish Ambassador to Laos, Mr. Orhan Işık, highlighted significant progress in educational cooperation between Türkiye and Laos, facilitated by the Turkish Maarif Foundation (TMF).
As part of Türkiye's "Asia Anew initiative," TMF has been expanding its activities in Laos, aiming to establish educational institutions in Vientiane and providing comprehensive education from pre-school to K12 levels. In the context of 66 years of diplomatic relations between Türkiye and Laos, efforts to bolster educational cooperation have accelerated, with meetings held between TMF and Lao officials to discuss further collaboration.
Ambassador Işık also addressed the events of July 15, 2016, and the ongoing fight against the "Fethullahist Terrorist Organization" (FETO). He emphasized the need for international solidarity in combating terrorism and praised the Turkish people for defending democracy during the coup attempt.
