The Lao government has officially designated That Phon and Heuan Hinh (Stone House) as national heritage sites, announced during the That Phon Festival in Savannakhet Province on February 8, 2025. This recognition follows extensive efforts by the Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism to document, preserve, and protect these ancient sites.

That Phon, a sacred Buddhist site dating back to 557, remains a key religious landmark, attracting worshippers and cultural tourists. The ongoing festival features traditional performances, local artisan showcases, and a grand wax cattle procession, celebrating the region’s deep-rooted traditions. The That Phon Festival runs until February 12, promoting cultural heritage and tourism.
