Thailand Tops ASEAN in Dairy Exports with US$582M, Growing by 11.5% in 2024.
In 2024, Thai dairy exports jumped by 11.5% to hit US$582 million, supported by duty-free access through ASEAN free trade agreements and significant market growth in essential nations.
On Wednesday, February 5, 2025, Deputy Minister of Commerce Suchart Chomklin announced that Thailand's dairy exports saw an 11.5% increase in 2024, totaling US$582 million, which is around 19.623 billion baht.
The growth was especially notable in key markets, with Malaysia experiencing a 64.3% surge, followed by Vietnam at 30.4%, Indonesia at 27.1%, Singapore at 20.1%, the Philippines at 19%, and Myanmar at 14.6%.
Thai dairy products enjoy duty-free access within ASEAN through the ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement (ATIGA), which boosts their competitiveness in the regional market.
Items in high demand include yogurt, drinking yogurt, ultra-high temperature milk, and soy milk combined with dairy.
Beyond strong regional sales, Thai dairy exports have successfully penetrated significant markets like China, Australia, New Zealand, Chile, and Hong Kong, where free trade agreements have removed import tariffs on these goods.
Deputy Minister Suchart also tasked the Department of Trade Negotiations with investigating potential free trade agreements with emerging markets in Africa and South America.
Thailand aims to complete negotiations with South Korea and under the ASEAN-Canada Free Trade Agreement by 2025 to enhance market access, diminish trade barriers, and reinforce its global standing in the dairy sector.
