Laos and China Strengthen Legal Cooperation with New Agreement

MoU signed to enhance bilateral collaboration in law and justice
On November 21, 2024, the ministries of justice of Laos and China took a significant step in strengthening their legal ties by signing an agreement in Vientiane Capital. The ceremony, attended by key officials from both countries, resulted in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to deepen and expand cooperation in the field of law and justice.

The MoU was jointly signed by Ketsana Phommachanh, Deputy Minister of Justice of Laos, and Wang Zhenjiang, Vice Minister of Justice of China. The areas of collaboration outlined in the agreement include drafting and amending laws and regulations, enforcement of court judgments, professional regulation of legal practitioners, and the provision of legal aid. Both countries also agreed to work together on alternative dispute resolution methods, such as arbitration and mediation, as well as improving the professional development and capacity of justice administration personnel.

This agreement marks a significant step in the ongoing efforts of Laos and China to improve their justice systems and provide better legal services to their citizens. By enhancing legal reforms, professional training, and dispute resolution processes, the two nations are committed to advancing their legal frameworks and strengthening their cooperation in the field of law.
