Lao Red Cross Celebrates 70 Years of Humanitarian Service

Milestone event highlights decades of health, relief, and community support
The Lao Red Cross (LRC) marked its 70th anniversary with a walk for health and a photo exhibition at Patuxay in Vientiane on January 4. The event was attended by President Thongloun Sisoulith, ministers, international representatives, and LRC staff, celebrating decades of humanitarian contributions since its founding in 1955.

LRC President Khamlavan Chanthalavan emphasized the significance of the anniversary, aligning it with other national milestones, including the 70th anniversary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and the 50th anniversary of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic. He highlighted the organization’s evolution from providing wartime humanitarian assistance to its current role in emergency relief, health promotion, blood donation campaigns, and disaster preparedness.

Operating under a 10-year strategic plan (2021–2030), the LRC focuses on sustainability, public health, and disaster response. Its achievements, particularly in mobilizing safe blood supplies, stand as a testament to its enduring dedication to serving the Lao people.
