Vietnamese Monk Thich Minh Tue Continues Pilgrimage to India Through Thailand

The viral barefoot monk crosses borders on his spiritual journey to Buddhist sacred sites.
Vietnamese monk Thich Minh Tue, known for his ascetic lifestyle and viral fame, has crossed from Laos into Thailand on his pilgrimage to India. Arriving at Chong Mek in Thailand’s Ubon Ratchathani province on December 31, 2024, the monk and five fellow mendicants were warmly welcomed by Thai and Lao well-wishers who scattered flowers and sprinkled water in their path as signs of respect.

Accompanied by volunteers and escorted by Thai authorities for order and safety, the group aims to walk approximately one thousand three hundred kilometers across Thailand before reaching Myanmar. This leg follows their nineteen-day journey through Laos, where they passed provinces including Attapeu, Sekong, and Champassak.

Thich Minh Tue, who does not belong to Vietnam’s state-recognized Buddhist order, rose to prominence after walking barefoot across Vietnam earlier this year, attracting widespread public attention. His pilgrimage highlights dedication to traditional Buddhist practices and continues to inspire followers across Southeast Asia.
