Huge Blaze Breaks Out in Malaysia Following Gas Pipe Burst

A ruptured gas pipe ignites a massive blaze on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur, injuring more than 100 individuals and causing extensive damage to many houses.
A fire ignited by a ruptured gas pipe spread to multiple residences and launched a fireball into the sky outside Malaysia’s largest city on Tuesday, resulting in injuries to over 100 individuals.

The blaze broke out near a gas station in Putra Heights, just outside Kuala Lumpur, during a public holiday as Muslims marked the second day of Eid.

Officials from the national oil company reported that the fire began at one of its gas pipelines around 8:10 a.m., and that the affected pipeline was subsequently isolated.

Disaster management officials indicated that closing the valves would ultimately extinguish the fire.

At one point, flames soared to heights equivalent to 20 stories, but by 2:45 p.m., they had diminished to a manageable level, enabling firefighters to get closer.

At least 49 homes sustained damage, and 112 people were injured, with 63 requiring hospitalization for burns, breathing issues, and other injuries.

As a precaution, the fire department evacuated surrounding homes, and residents were sheltered in nearby mosques until the emergency was resolved.

The fire was visible from several kilometers away, and images and videos of the fireball circulated widely on social media, with some residents describing a strong tremor and the shaking of doors and windows.

Several victims experienced burns and injuries, including one individual whose vehicle was crushed by the ceiling of his house collapsing.

Three gas stations were closed as a safety measure, although they were not directly impacted by the fire.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
