Cambodia has been included in a draft proposal for a US travel ban that lists 43 countries potentially facing visa restrictions. The Trump administration is contemplating classifying these countries into three categories, with Cambodia positioned in the "yellow group" along with 27 others. This classification indicates that the country has 60 days to rectify issues before it could face partial visa suspensions. The "red group" encompasses nations like North Korea and Iran, which may encounter complete visa bans, while "orange group" countries, including Myanmar and Haiti, are slated for partial restrictions.

A representative from the US Embassy in Cambodia confirmed that the Department of State is examining visa policies under President Trump’s Executive Order 14,161, but refrained from commenting on internal discussions. In the meantime, Cambodia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs mentioned that it has not received any official communication regarding its status on the so-called Yellow List. Ministry spokesperson Chum Sounry expressed that Cambodia is dedicated to collaborating with the US on immigration issues, including the repatriation of Cambodian citizens deported from the US, and sees no immediate obstacles to cooperation.

Although specifics are still uncertain, Cambodia’s ongoing partnership with the US may affect its ultimate standing in the travel policy review. A favorable evaluation could allow the Kingdom to sidestep visa restrictions, but failing to address US concerns within the 60-day timeframe may lead to travel constraints. The situation is evolving as diplomatic talks are ongoing.
