The Philippine government has initiated the repatriation of distressed Filipino workers from Laos after a significant crackdown on cyber scams in the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone, located in Bokeo Province. The operation, which took place on August 12, led to the arrest of 771 individuals from 15 countries, including Laos, Myanmar, and China. The Philippine Embassy in Vientiane has already facilitated the return of seven Filipinos and plans to bring home 75 more. The economic zone, known for its Chinese-owned casinos and hotels, has been linked to various illegal activities since its establishment in 2007.
