Lao Brewery Company (LBC) is strengthening its environmental commitment by launching new green energy initiatives as part of Carlsberg Group’s “Together Towards ZERO and Beyond” program. The company has partnered with VN Green Energy to open Laos’ first biomass energy factory, which will supply LBC’s Vientiane brewery with steam energy from biomass waste, replacing fossil fuels and covering over 80 percent of the brewery’s energy needs.

This transition, beginning in February 2025, is expected to reduce carbon emissions significantly and help LBC reach net zero five years ahead of schedule. The move aligns with Carlsberg’s broader goal of achieving net-zero emissions across all its breweries by 2030. LBC is also exploring renewable energy solutions for its Pepsi plant in Vientiane and its brewery in Pakse. Additionally, the company continues to drive sustainability through projects like the Sustainable Rice Farming Project and its Zero Packaging Waste initiative, which has achieved a 97 percent collection rate for recyclable bottles.

Carlsberg Group CEO Jacob Aarup-Andersen’s visit to Laos highlights the company’s commitment to sustainability. Discussions with government officials will focus on LBC’s role in Laos’ green transition and fostering stronger public-private partnerships for sustainable growth.
