The government of Laos has achieved significant success in its malaria prevention and control programme, focusing on early diagnosis, effective treatment, and targeted health campaigns in rural and high-risk areas.

Deputy Minister of Health Dr Phayvanh Keopaseuth highlighted these achievements during a recent review meeting, summarising the outcomes of malaria control efforts in 2024 and setting priorities for 2025. The Centre of Malariology, Parasitology, and Entomology oversees these activities, aligning them with national targets.

Key achievements include targeted interventions such as case management, mosquito vector control, and community engagement. Surveillance systems have also been strengthened, enabling early detection and response to malaria cases in high-risk regions. These measures have significantly reduced malaria transmission across the country.

Looking ahead, Laos aims to eliminate *Plasmodium falciparum* and *P. vivax* malaria from all northern provinces by 2025 and achieve nationwide elimination by 2030. Efforts will focus on strengthening surveillance, improving access to healthcare services, and addressing challenges such as drug resistance and imported cases.

Malaria prevention remains a priority for the Ministry of Health, requiring sustained commitment, funding, and community participation to ensure continued progress toward a malaria-free Laos.
