Provincial authorities in Khammouane Province have uncovered formalin-contaminated seafood during inspections carried out from 10-11 October in local markets. The investigations, led by the Department of Livestock and Fisheries, focused on Thakhek and Nong Bok districts, where formalin was detected in prawns and octopus at several stores.

In Thakhek's Luk Sarm market, six stores were inspected, with 11.5 kilograms of contaminated seafood discovered at Narng Hua Seafood Store, among other outlets. In Nong Bok's Ton Pho market, formalin was found in two stores. The authorities have ordered the destruction of the contaminated products and warned store owners.

Authorities are urging the public to stay alert and report any suspicious goods while reminding vendors of their responsibility to provide safe and uncontaminated products. Inspections are ongoing to ensure consumer safety.
