The suggested measures would include a complete visa suspension for 10 countries, such as Afghanistan, Iran, and North Korea. A second set of five nations, including Laos and Haiti, would experience partial suspensions, while 26 others might face restrictions unless they enhance security protocols within 60 days.

This initiative mirrors Trump’s earlier travel ban imposed during his first term on several predominantly Muslim countries, which the Supreme Court supported in 2018. The directive comes in response to an executive order from January 20, which required more stringent security vetting. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is anticipated to evaluate the list prior to a final decision being reached.

Critics express concerns that the ban could jeopardize diplomatic relationships and affect thousands of travelers. The State Department has yet to respond to the proposal, and revisions may take place before the administration finalizes its policy.
