On March 12, the Thai government declared a temporary waiver on re-entry fees for migrant workers from Laos, Cambodia, and Myanmar who wish to return home for the Songkran New Year celebrations. This exemption, applicable to workers holding valid work permits, will be effective from April 1 to May 15, offering relief to migrants during the festive season.

Deputy Government Spokesman Karom Polpornklang noted that the initiative is designed to enhance labor relations and ease the financial strains for those wanting to reunite with their families. However, workers who return after May 15 will need to apply for a re-entry permit as per the usual procedure. The government underscored the significance of migrant workers in the Thai economy, viewing the exemption as a way to promote fair treatment and boost worker morale.

Moreover, the government introduced 124 additional domestic flights during Songkran, raising capacity by 24,000 seats to handle the increased number of travelers from April 11 to 17. Six major Thai airlines, including Thai Airways and AirAsia, will be operating these extra flights.
