Laos continues to make its mark on the global tourism scene, earning an impressive 219 ASEAN Tourism Standards Awards for its outstanding dedication to sustainable travel and remarkable tourism experiences. Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism Suansavanh Viyaket proudly shared this news on November 26, showcasing Laos' commitment to promoting green tourism and community-driven initiatives.
Among the prestigious accolades, Laos received 113 ASEAN Green Hotel Awards, recognizing eco-conscious accommodations, alongside 12 People’s Homestay Awards and 10 Communities’ Participatory Tourism Awards. In addition, the country earned 7 Clean Tourism City Awards, 34 Event Venue Awards, 12 Spa Awards, 22 Public Toilet Awards, and 6 Sustainable Tourism Awards, solidifying its reputation as a leading destination for sustainable tourism.
The government’s ongoing efforts have led to 151 accommodation facilities being graded, including luxury five-star hotels and locally-owned guesthouses, while more than 1,300 businesses have been certified under the LaoSafe hygiene and safety program.
Further cementing its global status, Lonely Planet recently ranked Laos 4th on its Top 30 Places to Visit list, highlighting the country’s stunning natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, and commitment to eco-friendly tourism.
