Experts from the Lao PDR and Japan recently convened for an academic seminar titled "Towards Safer Blood Transfusion," marking a key step in improving the safety and quality of blood donation systems in Laos.

The event brought together key figures, including Mr. Khamlavanh Chanthalavanh, President of the Lao Red Cross, and Mr. Taiju Kikuchi, Third Secretary of the Japanese Embassy in Laos. Discussions highlighted the essential role of voluntary blood donations, particularly in reducing maternal mortality, addressing severe anemia in children, and supporting critical medical treatments and emergency care.

The seminar emphasized collaboration between government agencies, the Lao Red Cross, and healthcare stakeholders to ensure donor health, rigorous screening, and strict standards in blood handling. Experts underscored the importance of voluntary donors and the proper separation, storage, and transportation of blood components.

This event reinforced the commitment of both nations to advancing healthcare infrastructure, underscoring the vital role of international cooperation in building a reliable and safe blood supply system for Laos.
