Typhoon Yagi Causes Over 124 Billion Kip in Damage to Irrigation Systems in Huaphan Province

71 irrigation projects across 8 districts heavily affected by flooding
Flooding caused by typhoon Yagi has inflicted severe damage to irrigation systems in Huaphan Province, with estimated losses amounting to 124.7 billion kip. According to Mr. Bounseum Insoumang, Deputy Head of the Irrigation Division of the Department of Agriculture and Forestry, 71 irrigation facilities across 8 districts have been impacted.

The hardest-hit area was Sobbao, where damage to 31 irrigation projects affected 514 hectares, resulting in losses of 31.4 billion kip. Viengxay and Hiem districts also suffered significant damage, with Viengxay reporting losses of 29.7 billion kip and Hiem 28.1 billion kip due to damaged irrigation infrastructure.

Other affected areas include Xamneua, with 11 projects damaged, and Huameuang, which saw 6 projects impacted, incurring losses of 13 billion and 14.1 billion kip, respectively. The flood damage is a major setback for agricultural productivity in the region.
