Laos' trade dynamics for February reveal a continued dominance of cassava as the top export product, maintaining its stronghold despite the country experiencing a trade deficit for the second consecutive month. While the full March report is pending, February saw Laos' two-way trade reaching USD 1,101 million, with exports totaling around USD 530 million and imports at approximately USD 570 million.

Cassava remained at the forefront of exports with a value of USD 95 million, followed by mixed gold, copper ore, paper products, and cassava starch. On the import side, diesel, land vehicles, and mechanical equipment were among the top commodities.

China remained the primary export destination, with Thailand leading in imports. Despite the trade deficit and rising inflation rates, the Asian Development Bank projects moderate economic growth for Laos in 2024 and 2025, driven by sectors like tourism, trade, and renewable energy investment.
