Four Arrested in Andhra Pradesh Over Alleged HIV-Contaminated Injection Attack on Doctor

Police in Kurnool say the attack involved a staged road incident and a syringe injection, with an internal hospital inquiry opened over access to the blood sample.
Police in Kurnool district in India’s southern state of Andhra Pradesh arrested four suspects in connection with an incident in which a woman doctor was allegedly injected with HIV-contaminated blood using a syringe.

The incident is described as a planned revenge plot, and investigators say it involved months of tracking the doctor’s routine before an attack carried out in public during the afternoon.

The case centers on an alleged plan led by a woman identified in reporting as a Kurnool resident and a postgraduate nursing student, with one suspect described as a nurse employed at a private hospital in Adoni.

The suspects are alleged to have obtained blood from a patient living with HIV who was treated at the Government General Hospital in the area, and investigators say the blood was later used during the attack.

The assault is described as occurring on January 9, 2026, at about 2:30 p.m., when the doctor was traveling home on a scooter.

Investigators say two suspects on a motorcycle caused her to fall by deliberately colliding with her, after which two women approached under the pretext of helping her.

During the interaction, one woman allegedly pricked the doctor’s arm with a syringe, and the suspects then fled.

A complaint was filed with police by the doctor’s husband, who is also a doctor, after he expressed concern about what had been injected.

Police say investigative steps included collecting evidence and reviewing security camera footage, which led to the suspects being identified and arrested.

Multiple reports place the arrests on January 24, 2026.

At the Government General Hospital, an internal inquiry was opened to examine how the HIV-contaminated blood sample was removed or accessed.

The doctor’s health status is being monitored, and additional medical tests are ongoing.

Confirmed vs unclear: Confirmed elements include the location (Kurnool district, Andhra Pradesh), the number of suspects arrested (four), the described method of attack (a staged road incident followed by a syringe injection), the reported timing (January 9, 2026, around 2:30 p.m.), and the opening of an internal hospital inquiry into access to the blood sample.

What remains unclear from the available details is the final verified content of the injected material from medical testing, the full chain of custody for the blood sample inside the hospital, and the legal outcomes that will follow the arrests as the investigation proceeds.
