Vietnamese airline Vietjet and the Ministry of Public Works and Transport of Laos announced a significant agreement on July 11 to enhance air transport connectivity between Vietnam and Laos.

The announcement ceremony in Vientiane was attended by Vietnam’s President To Lam and Laos’ President Thongloun Sisoulith, along with other dignitaries. Under this agreement, Vietjet will work with the Department of Civil Aviation of Laos on aviation projects, expected to create up to 2,500 new jobs. Vietjet plans to set up Maintenance Repair Overhaul facilities and oversee workforce training through its Vietjet Aviation Academy.

The agreement aims to bring affordable, high-quality air services to Laotian and international tourists, promoting socio-economic development, trade, and tourism. The Ministry of Public Works and Transport of Laos praised Vietjet’s contributions, aligning with the Vietnam-Laos strategic cooperation goals for 2016-2025. Vietjet’s new Ho Chi Minh City-Vientiane route, launched earlier this year, offers diverse travel options and strengthens connections to global destinations. Vietnam remains a major investor in Laos with projects totaling 5.5 billion USD.
