The Public Works and Transport Department in Vientiane held a seminar on July 29 to address the persistent problem of urban flooding. The event was attended by Vientiane Mayor Adsapangthong Sipandone, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Bounkham Vorachit, and other officials.

Head of the Public Works Department, Bounyavath Niraxay, highlighted the seminar's objective to generate practical solutions for flooding that disrupts traffic and daily life in Vientiane. He pointed out that even short periods of continuous rain can lead to significant flooding, damaging roads and complicating life for residents. Factors such as climate change, increased rainfall, limited budgets, and inadequate drainage systems were identified as contributors to the problem.

In response to early 2024 flooding, the Public Works Department, along with district offices and other sectors, conducted surveys and took actions such as cleaning drainage ditches. The seminar aimed to gather opinions and develop effective strategies to mitigate flooding impacts and improve the city’s infrastructure promptly.
