Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Strengthened Through Media Event and Environmental Awareness

Participants from Six Lancang-Mekong Countries Highlight Environmental Protection and Collaboration at Lancang River
On November 27, 2024, a significant media exchange event was held in the Xizang (Tibet) Autonomous Region, where media representatives from six Lancang-Mekong countries, including China, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam, gathered to explore the region’s environmental progress and the ongoing Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) mechanism.

The event followed the “Lancang-Mekong Impression” Short Video Contest, which was aimed at promoting mutual understanding and cultural exchange among the countries in the Lancang-Mekong region. The gathering was held at the meeting point of the Zhaqu and Angqu rivers in Changdu City, known as the place where rivers merge. Participants shared their insights on the importance of ecological protection and the significant strides made in preserving the environment of the Lancang River, China’s longest north-to-south flowing river.

The event highlighted the growing efforts to improve water quality, protect the environment, and increase awareness about sustainable development, particularly focusing on the impact of environmental protection policies implemented in the region. Several media representatives, including Anucha Charoenpo from Thailand, expressed their admiration for the local efforts to safeguard the environment, noting the enhanced clarity of the river’s water and the commitment to protect the region’s landscapes and resources.

As part of the LMC’s ongoing initiatives, which have strengthened regional cooperation, participants emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in maintaining the health of the Lancang River. With shared resources and responsibilities, the six countries are working together to ensure the sustainability of their ecosystems and to foster greater economic and cultural exchanges.
