Preparations are underway for the 12th National Games in Laos, scheduled for 2025. The National Steering Committee held its first official meeting on November 26 at the Vientiane Administrative Office, chaired by Vientiane Mayor and President of the 12th National Sports Festival, Atsaphangthong Siphandone, and Minister of Education and Sports Phut Simmalavong.
Vientiane Deputy Mayor Phouvong Vongkhamsao expressed the city's pride in hosting the event, noting its role in promoting Lao culture and traditions through sports competitions. The festival aims to enhance national sports, encourage physical activity, and foster unity across Laos’ ethnic groups. It also strives to improve physical and mental well-being, support socio-economic development, and strengthen human resources.
As part of the preparations, a survey of potential venues for the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as various competitions, was conducted. The survey highlighted the need for urgent repairs to several facilities, including the indoor stadium at the National Stadium. The estimated cost to host the games is 209.43 billion kip, and funding discussions are ongoing. The 12th National Games are expected to be a significant event celebrating sports, culture, and unity in Laos.
