Locals Urged to Beware of Fraudulent Lottery and Loan Scams

Authorities Issue Warning Against Scammers Targeting Residents Through Social Media
Xieng Khouang Provincial authorities have issued a public warning following reports of individuals falling victim to a fraudulent lottery scheme. The provincial Public Security Office expressed concern over the scam, which has allegedly been orchestrated through social media platforms.

According to the warning, a group of scammers has been actively deceiving individuals since early 2012, operating by advertising six-number lotteries in Laos, Vietnam, and Thailand on platforms like WhatsApp and Facebook. Victims are promised a chance to win 400 million Kip by selecting the correct numbers for a mere 1,000 Kip. However, victims soon discover they must pay additional sums for the supposed winning numbers, leading to financial fraud.

Authorities have also warned the public about separate scams involving false loan advertisements, with scammers posing as legitimate banking institutions offering loans without collateral requirements. Other fraudulent entities claim to represent companies offering high-interest loans, enticing victims to invest large sums of money with promises of substantial returns.

Residents are urged to remain vigilant, verify the legitimacy of offers, and refrain from sharing personal or financial information with unknown entities to prevent falling victim to such scams.
