Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone announced on November 26 that the minimum salary for civil servants will rise to LAK 2.2 million (approximately USD 100.26) per month starting in 2025. This increase is part of the government's ongoing efforts to improve the standard of living for government employees.

Speaking during the 8th Ordinary Session of the National Assembly, Sonexay highlighted several other key changes to the subsidy system, including an increase in the cost of living allowance, a merging of subsidies for administrative positions with individual fuel policies, and enhanced age and family subsidies. This marks an over 18 percent increase in the base salary for civil servants from the current rate of LAK 1.85 million (USD 84.31).

The policy is designed to support not only civil servants but also their families by introducing enhanced subsidies for children and spouses. This move continues a series of salary increases that began with a LAK 150,000 (USD 6.84) rise in both 2023 and 2024, aiming to address the rising cost of living and further support the public sector workforce.
