Laos Observes State Funeral for Vietnam’s Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong

National Mourning Highlights Profound Friendship and Cooperation
A state funeral for Vietnam’s Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong was held at the Lao Prime Minister’s Office, National Assembly Office, and the Office of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP) Central Committee on July 25. Officials and staff observed a minute of silence to honor General Secretary Trong's significant contributions to strengthening the deep friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between the two nations.

Minister-Chairman of the office Bouakhong Nammavong shared that the Lao Party and Government decided to observe national mourning, both within Laos and at Lao embassies and representative offices abroad, reflecting the profound loss of a close and dear friend. Phouthala Keovichith, Secretary of the LPRP Central Committee Office’s Youth Union, emphasized the commitment of the younger Lao generations to uphold and further the strong relationship fostered by General Secretary Trong and Lao Party General Secretary Thongloun Sisoulith.

Laos is observing national mourning on July 25-26. Ministries, sectors, and agencies at all levels, as well as the Laos-Vietnam Friendship Association, have sent letters of condolences and paid respects at the Vietnamese Embassy in Laos and Consulates General. Major Lao media outlets have also featured articles and documentaries highlighting General Secretary Trong's vital contributions to the exceptional Laos-Vietnam relationship.
