On November 29, senior leaders of the Party and government, led by President Thongloun Sisoulith, warmly welcomed international diplomats and representatives from international organizations to mark the 49th Anniversary of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR) and to usher in the upcoming International New Year 2025.

During the event, Turkish Ambassador to Laos and Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, Mr. Orhan Isik, congratulated the Lao leadership for their nation-building achievements over the past 49 years. He also praised Laos for its successful chairing of ASEAN in 2024, which included hosting major regional events. Ambassador Isik reaffirmed the international community’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Laos.

President Thongloun expressed gratitude to the international community for their ongoing support and solidarity. He acknowledged the contributions of previous generations and underscored the importance of unity and determination among the Lao people as they aim for a sustainable and prosperous future. The President also highlighted that 2025 will be a significant year, marking several milestones, including the 50th anniversary of Laos’ establishment, the 70th anniversary of its UN membership, and its upcoming graduation from least-developed country status in 2026.
