Laos and Germany Launch New Phase of TVET Project to Boost Workforce Skills

VELA project enters phase 3, focusing on practical training and sustainable practices in vocational education
The Lao People’s Democratic Republic and Germany have launched phase 3 of the Vocational Education in Laos (VELA) project, aiming to improve Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) across Laos. This phase will extend the Dual-Cooperative Training (DCT) approach nationwide, supporting over 10 institutions. DCT combines classroom learning with real-world training, enabling students to develop practical skills in fields such as agriculture, electrical work, automotive services, and hospitality.

The project also focuses on “greening” TVET, with new courses on sustainable hotel and gastronomy management and eco-friendly practices, accessible via the Atingi online platform. Additionally, the career guidance tool OASA, launched in 2023, will help Lao youth explore suitable career paths in vocational professions. Funded by Germany’s BMZ with EUR 5 million, the project is expected to enhance workforce readiness and economic growth.
