During the 57th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting and related events in Vientiane from July 21-27, 2024, Mr. Saleumxay Kommasith, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lao PDR, met with Mr. Dato Erywan Pehin Yusof, Second Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brunei Darussalam, on July 24.

The discussions focused on bolstering bilateral and multilateral ties, emphasizing the long-standing friendship and cooperation between Laos and Brunei. Both ministers celebrated the achievements of their 30-year partnership, noting progress in various development sectors and the elevation of their relationship to a strategic partnership following Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah's state visit to Laos in 2023.

The two sides reviewed the 2022 Memorandum of Understanding on Agricultural Cooperation, with Brunei expressing interest in importing Laotian agricultural products, particularly rice. Additionally, they exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual concern.
