The International Finance Corporation (IFC) has signed an agreement with the Ministry of Public Works and Transport of the Lao PDR to modernize Luang Prabang International Airport (LPIA) through a public-private partnership (PPP). IFC will serve as the lead advisor for this project, aimed at upgrading the airport’s facilities and increasing passenger capacity.

Currently, LPIA handles 1.3 million passengers annually. Under the PPP, the airport is expected to accommodate over four million international and 500,000 domestic passengers, boosting the country's connectivity within Southeast Asia and beyond. The project is seen as critical for supporting Laos' tourism sector, which is anticipated to generate US$1.3 billion in 2024.
