Lao Media Forum Explores AI and Social Media Challenges

Celebrating Lao Media Day with Insights on Technology
The Forum on “How to Use Artificial Intelligence and Challenges of Social Media for Lao Media” convened in Vientiane, bringing together over 200 media professionals nationwide. This event, part of the 74th Lao Media Day celebrations, aimed to provide insights into the latest advancements in media technology and address the evolving landscape of the industry.

Discussions centered on how artificial intelligence (AI) can revolutionize news production and editing, enabling faster content delivery and expanding media reach. The forum highlighted AI’s potential to produce richer content, meet the public’s growing demand for timely information, and align with Party and state development policies. Participants also explored strategies to combat fake news and misleading information in the digital age.

Australian Deputy Ambassador Dan Heldon and Dr. Bounheng Southichak emphasized the dual nature of AI’s impact on media, noting that while AI offers growth opportunities, it also complicates the journalist’s role in discerning and reporting the truth. The forum underscored the importance of integrating AI into media practices to enhance efficiency and adapt to the rapidly evolving technological landscape.
