Focus on boosting regional connectivity, economic resilience, and disaster preparedness.
During the 27th ASEAN-Japan Summit in Vientiane, Japan’s Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru emphasized his country’s unwavering commitment to strengthening ties with ASEAN. Speaking at a press conference, he highlighted Japan's role as a trusted partner for ASEAN nations and expressed confidence in enhancing cooperation across sectors such as connectivity, economic resilience, and disaster preparedness. Looking ahead, Prime Minister Shigeru underscored the importance of the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Laos in 2025, pledging to elevate bilateral relations to a "comprehensive strategic partnership." Japan will focus on helping Laos build a resilient economy, while also contributing to financial stability and economic growth. As part of this support, Japan is committed to expanding Wattay International Airport to enhance connectivity and boost economic development in Laos.

The Japanese leader also highlighted disaster resilience, expressing Japan's readiness to support Laos in strengthening its capacity to respond to future natural disasters. He praised Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone for ensuring the success of this year’s ASEAN Summit.
