Fifth Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge to Open in November: Boosting Transportation and Economy between Thailand and Laos for 3.9 Billion Baht

The fifth Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge, connecting Bueng Kan province in Thailand and Pakxan town in Laos, is set to open in November.
The bridge consists of a 1.35-kilometer crossover with a two-lane road at the Mekong River and a four-lane bypass in Thailand.

The project also includes a two-lane, 2.86km bypass in Pakxan.

Deputy Transport Minister Manaporn Charoensri made the announcement on Friday.

The bridge will link Highway No. 222 in Thailand with Nong Khai, Nakhon Phanom, and Sakon Nakhon.

Ms. Manaporn announced that a transportation project between Thailand and Laos, which cost 3.906 billion baht, is set to be completed this November.

The project aims to enhance transportation between the two countries, allowing transporters to save on costs and time.

The ministry anticipates growth in investment, job opportunities, and expansion of Bueng Kan city due to the improved connection with Vietnam and southern China.

A plan for infrastructure development to support sustainable growth in the neighboring provinces is also underway.

The regions of Bueng Kan, Nakhon Phanom, Mukdahan, and Sakon Nakhon in Thailand are identified as high-potential economic zones due to the presence of two Thai-Lao Friendship Bridges.

Currently, there are ongoing projects in the area, including a double-track railway and road network.

These projects received 1.605 billion baht from this year's fiscal budget and cost a total of 72.34 billion baht.

The focus of these projects is to improve transport links between Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, and China, according to Ms. Manaporn.
