Celebrating Women and Cultural Heritage: A Study Tour of Lao Textiles and History

Women's Union tour highlights Lao craftsmanship and traditional textiles on International Women's Day.
On March 5, 2025, the Women's Union of the Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism participated in a study tour aimed at promoting and preserving Lao cultural heritage. The tour, celebrating the 115th anniversary of International Women's Day, visited the Lao Traditional Silk Residence and the National Museum. Led by Ms. Dalani Phommavongsa, Deputy Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism, the delegation focused on recognizing the vital role of women in the preservation of Lao craftsmanship and culture.

A key highlight of the tour was the exhibition "Textile Treasures of Laos," inaugurated by Ms. Souvita Praseuth, President of the Lao Handicraft Association. The exhibition featured over 100 rare textiles, some nearly 300 years old, which represent various ethnic groups in Laos, including the Lao-Tai, Hmong-Ieu Mien, and Mon-Khmer. The textiles, some contributed by elderly collectors, showcased intricate ceremonial fabrics, traditional attire, and decorative pieces.

The day concluded with a visit to the National Museum, where delegates explored historical artifacts that reflect the cultural evolution of Laos. The tour provided an opportunity to deepen appreciation for the country’s textile heritage and the contributions of women in maintaining these cultural traditions.
