During a three-day visit to Huaphan province from 4-6 March, Ms. Megan Jones, the Australian Ambassador to Laos, emphasized Australia’s commitment to enhancing people-to-people links and economic engagement between the two nations. As part of the visit, Ambassador Jones handed over 100 audio tour headsets to the Lao Leadership Caves Information Center in Viengxay District, reinforcing the longstanding relationship between Laos and Australia. This gesture also aligned with activities organized by the Australia-Laos Friendship Association.

The Ambassador’s visit also included a courtesy call to Mr. Phoutphan Keovongxay, Vice Governor of Huaphan, where discussions centered on Australia’s support for Laos’ socio-economic development, trade, climate resilience, clean energy transition, and defense cooperation. Additionally, Ambassador Jones delivered remarks at an Australia Awards Scholarships information session, highlighting Australia’s support for human resource development in Laos.

Ambassador Jones also participated in the launch of Australian logistics company Linfox’s investment in Huaphan province, underscoring Australia’s dedication to fostering business expansion. Since 2018, Linfox has trained over 200 Lao workers to Australian transport and logistics standards, with 50% of its employees being women. Linfox’s recent contracts with Carlsberg and Lao Brewery Company are testament to the growing economic ties between Australia and Laos.
