Lao Students Embark on Scholarly Journey to Japan

Government of Japan’s MEXT Scholarship Sends Lao Scholars Off with Warm Farewell
In a heartfelt send-off reception held in Vientiane on March 15, Lao students bound for Japan under the esteemed Government of Japan’s MEXT scholarship bid farewell to family, friends, and well-wishers as they embark on a transformative journey of scholarly pursuit.

The event, graced by Minister of Education and Sports Phout Simmalavong and esteemed guests, celebrated the enduring friendship between Laos and Japan, as well as the longstanding tradition of educational exchange between the two nations. Over the past three decades, Japan has welcomed over 1,300 Lao students under various scholarship programs, fostering invaluable opportunities for academic and cultural enrichment.

This year, 28 bright scholars from Laos have been awarded scholarships to pursue graduate and undergraduate studies, as well as technical and specialized training in Japan. These scholars carry with them the hopes and aspirations of their nation, poised to acquire knowledge, skills, and experiences that will contribute to the future development of Laos and the region.

Ambassador of Japan to the Lao PDR, Kobayashi Kenichi, extended his heartfelt wishes to the scholars, encouraging them to immerse themselves in the rich tapestry of Japanese culture while sharing the beauty and diversity of Laos with their Japanese counterparts. As Japan and Laos prepare to commemorate the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations next year, Ambassador Kobayashi emphasized the pivotal role of these scholars in strengthening the bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two nations.

Ms. Shengkhin Saeteun, speaking on behalf of the MEXT scholarship awardees, expressed profound gratitude to the Government of Japan for their generosity and reaffirmed the scholars' commitment to academic excellence during their tenure in Japan. Echoing her sentiments, Ms. Souksavanh Chanthongsy, a returning scholar, shared her inspiring journey and encouraged the next generation of scholars to embrace the opportunities that await them in Japan.

As these scholars embark on their educational odyssey, they carry the aspirations of a nation and the enduring spirit of friendship between Laos and Japan, poised to make meaningful contributions to a brighter, more interconnected world.
